The labyrinth

Protocol for Walking the Labyrinth

Walking the labyrinth is as simple as taking one step at a time, move yourself to the center and back out again. Unlike a maze which is designed to confuse you, the labyrinth is designed to help you find your way. Walk with an open heart and mind.

To begin I suggest, you acknowledge the labyrinth. This is done with a nod, a bow or a smile. If you choose to set an intention, do so. As you enter have no expectations. Let the day go. Focus on your intentions, what do you want? Take a deep breath and begin your journey.

Move at the pace your body sets - walk, run, dance, skip, cry or laugh it’s your experience. If you meet someone on the path, step aside and let them to pass.

When you reach the center, stay as long as you desire. The center is a place for reflection, prayer and experiencing what is meaningful for you.

As you leave the center be attentive to your emotions, feelings and insights. Listen as you move out of the labyrinth and back into the world. What wisdom comes with you?

At the Labyrinth exit give gratitude for all that has been revealed. Acknowledge it again with a bow, a nod or a smile.

If you feel like you want to, this is your time for quiet contemplation. Sit in the grass, journal, jot notes and absorb your wisdom. Quietly stroll the grounds.

Notes
